Standar penulisan referensi bagi seorang akademisi sangatlah penting. Sebab dalam menulis karya akademik tentunya tidak akan lepas dari penggunaan referensi sebagai landasan teori. Sumber referensi itu sendiri bisa terdiri dari beberapa jenis misalkan buku, artikel jurnal, seminar konferensi dan sumber online. Keempat jenis tersebut jelas tidaklah sama dalam hal penulisan sumber referensinya.
Berikut contoh penulisan sumber referensi yang digunakan di kampus STEI ITB untuk keempat jenis sumber referensi di atas:
